Forms extensive floating mats that are usually very bright green.

Filaments are very slippery to the touch when the algae is removed from the water.

Most abundant in early spring and usually dissipates by mid-summer, likes colder water.

Takes advantage of cooler water to grow quickly.  Contains bubbles from trapped gases.

Where water, nutrients and light are present algae will grow – it is not preventable.

There are over 30,000 species of algae, each adapted to fill a niche.

A consistent treatment program and quick response to growth are key to good control.
